Parlington Hall :: The Estate :: Oil Paintings, by Anthony Christian

Continuing the theme of the lime trees from the previous page, these two charming composite frames each have four individual lime tree trunks. The Ordnance Survey map from 1908 [Scale: 1:2,500] shows the line of trees that feature in these paintings and I suspect they have remained largely unchanged over the last century.

The timber of lime trees is soft, easily worked, and has very little grain, and a density of 560kg per cubic metre. It is a popular wood for model building and intricate carving. [Courtesy Wikipedia: Tilia]
